no app disc with burned install OS

Was directed to insert the install dvd to install several apps needed to complete install of openoffice, but had used a burned official suse site downloaded version of 42.2 for the OS install which means any time inserted it would just get the option to reinstall the already installed Leap 42.2 -- no apps for scanning available. This a problem not just for the openoffice, but for anything that needs support from the install disc. Any solution available?

Not with any details; we have no idea what you downloaded, from where, how you burned the disc, etc., or even what you're trying to do. Are you trying to install openoffice, SUSE, another distro??? What do you mean by "opened into segments"??

If you installed from a DVD, & it is asking you to supply the DVD to be able to install a program, then put the DVD into the drive whilst running the O/S - it should find what it needs by itself.

does not work

Tried accessing the install disc when it was called for, but it didn't work; tried several times and different ways/timings, but no success.

And **AGAIN**, unless you provide actual details and answer the questions asked in the first reply, there is nothing we can tell you. The only things you've posted so far tell us:
  • You burned something to a disc
  • It doesn't work
You don't say WHAT you burned, how, what you're trying to do, on what kind of machine, etc. We can't guess.

Do a search of LQ for that. I have seen multiple posts for SUSE over the last few years that asked a similar question.

Re wiliamvw

openSUSE 42.1 was back in 2016.

Many Linux systems discontinued their using OpenOffice as their open-source office suite, seems most chose LibreOffice to replace it.

Apache OpenOffice releases their Apache OpenOffice version 4.1.7 in 2019.

I thought that if it fails with the DVD, maybe you could try to add an online repository. But 42.1 is not supported any more.

You should probably update to at leas 42.3.
Here is a link to the official instructions to update your system.
This page should contain the addresses of the mirrors for Leap 42.3.
