Checking MD5 match of burned disc to original ISO

Is there a way to determine that a burned disc was created correctly from an ISO?

I ran an md5sum on /dev/sr0 and on my ISO, and the results were different. But, as I understand it, an ISO is not a bit level image, rather it is file level like Ghost, so it would stand to logic that these md5's might be different.

I always run verify when I burn, but for some reason K3B bugged out on verify. I'm not too sure it's a problem with the burn, and I don't want to waste discs.

Smile checking Md5 match of burned disc to original iso

When I burned iso image kde3 burned start witch Md5 check and if it is the
same as the one I wright down from the internet I burned it.
Because that is my opinion the purpose of the Md5 check
After burning the iso the Md5 is always different.

Some times I burned it with a check to original file on the HD
And before installing I run a media check just to be sure.

good luck

My suspicion that the MD5 of a burned disc will not have the same MD5 as the original ISO is confirmed. I went ahead and reburned with K3B and got a successful burn. But the MD5s were still different.

Now I'm thinking some comparison options would be the 'diff' command, or recursive MD5 checks between the files inside the ISO, and the disc.

You must only check the md5sum of the iso size image. So, if you don't use k3b's integrated md5sum verification, then use 'dd' to pipe the image size off the burn disk to md5sum, and that should match.
