Are you using KDE4 or KDE 3.5 on SUSE?

For KDE4:
To do volume up, volume down, and mute keys
Goto 'Configure Desktop' (Personal Settings) in KDE menu. (if you can't find it, use the search box at top of KDE menu)
Once there, click on 'Keyboard & Mouse'.
Goto 'Keyboard Shortcuts' section.
In 'KDE component' Drop down menu, chose 'KMix'
Search for the components you want, then expand it.
Select 'Custom' toggle and then click the button next to it. Now press the particular button you want that component to be controlled by.

For play, pause, next, prev, etc buttons in amarok
Start Amarok->Settings->Configure Shortcuts
From there, its similar to above; find component, choose custom, click button, press keyboard button.

Good luck.
