LimeWire only runs as root

Hello

As above basically. If I run Limewire thru the shell it returns the following:

darrendowlut@linux:~> limewire
Starting LimeWire...
Java exec found in PATH. Verifying...
Suitable java version found [java = 1.5.0_06]
Configuring environment...
Loading LimeWire:
log4j:ERROR setFile(null,true) call failed.
java.io.FileNotFoundException: log.txt (Permission denied)

(error message continues).

could not create preferences directory: /home/darrendowlut/.limewire

I think the problem is the .limewire file in /home which for some reason I cant access, even as root. For instance, the following is issued as root:

linux:/home/darrendowlut # ls
/bin/ls: .limewire: Permission denied
(and then goes on to list my files/folders)

Anyone wanna throw in their 10c worth???? *stumped*.

Try changing ownership of the limewire directory. As root do something like,
Code:
#chown -R darrendowlut.users /home/darrendowlut/.limewire

Thanks for your reply. Still no luck on this. As root, I get the following:

linux:/home/darrendowlut # chown -R darrendowlut.users /home/darrendowlut/.limewire
chown: cannot access `/home/darrendowlut/.limewire': Permission denied

This is all very odd, no?

What are the results of running the following in the users home directory
Code:
#ls -la | grep -i limewire

Reddazz, thanks again for the quick post. Having just cratered my box, I have just had to reinstall (dont ask). Anyhow, as I have /home on a seperate partition, the .limewire file is still there (I've yet to reinstall LimeWire, running online update at the moment).

linux:/home/darrendowlut # ls -la | grep -i limewire
/bin/ls: .limewire: Permission denied
/bin/ls: .X.err: Permission denied

The above was run as root. Any further suggestions?

Whats strange is that root can't access that directory as well. Maybe try doing "chmod 777" to that directory and see if there is any change. If not maybe use a live CD to boot your system and try to remove the file. There could be other solutions but I can't think of others from the top of my head.
