x only runs in root

Okay, I have a problem that may not be big for you guys, but for me it is. I'm a newbie to Linux yet and the one that was guiding me and teaching me moved out of the area and wont answer e-mails. Anytime I try to log into x as my user, x crashes and wont run. I can log into X as root, and it runs fine. I have a dual boot machine running 2000 Pro/RHN9.0 on a 800 Celeron and a nvidia GPU. Under the user account the splash screen comes up but then it crashes back to the terminal window. Also I would like to enable both screens on my soundacrd and have no clue on how to get it to happen. I'm online sporadically an have no access from home where the puter is at for time being. I know I do have the newest drivers cause I d/l'd the most up to date before I left my high speed connection month ago. Any help is appreciated, I am a newbie to linux- but not to computers overall.

This is often caused by the /home partition being full. Check with 'df' , if it says /home Use 100% then X can't start - it has to write to /home/<username>
