i have a BSNL Broadband internet connection working fine with windows xp and OpenSUSE 10.3(Kinternet). it was working fine with OpenSUSE 11.0 when i upgraded from 10.3. But when i did a new installation of 11.0 with KDE 4.1 it just refuses to connect. The message i get is "either smpppd is not running or you are not member of dialout group". I checked smpppd is installed by default with KInternet. i am member of dialout group as well.

What I mean is , is the eternet card connected to the dsl modem ?
If so configure first the eternet card yast2>network devices>network settings
If you run DHCP than the settings are DHCP IP dynamic
IF not PPPE IP dynamic
I only use kinternet when I was using a dial up modem
thanx i got your point. i mean the ethernet card is connected to the dsl modem. i configured the ethernet card already as u suggested. things still dont work. u can suggest any other method than KInternet for connecting to the internet.

Kinternet if you like to use it is possible using kde3
Or try to run kinternet from the command line as root
If it is not installed than you have to install first
It is possible that you,re ethernet card is not supported by openssuse 11
