Kernel-Source downgrading problem

I had the problem with receiving errors from SMART about the channels and such, and after deleting the channels, I was able to update them with no problems. However, I was still receiving a lot of dependency errors when running 'smart fix.'

I ran YAST2 and had it do an update of my workstation which finished with no problems. That was approximately 6-7 days ago.

Now when I run YAST2 to do a System Update, I receive a lot of dependency warnings and am unable to get past them to do any updates.

I returned to SMART...

I ended up having to install/remove/downgrade each package individually using 'smart install' and 'smart remove'

The only error I receive now is:

09:39 Mule:~ # smart fix
Loading cache...
Updating cache... ########################################################################### [100%]

Computing transaction...

Downgrading packages (1):
kernel-source-2.6.16.21-0.21@i586

44.0MB of package files are needed. 224.0MB will be used.

Confirm changes? (Y/n): y

Committing transaction...
Preparing... ########################################################################### [ 0%]
error: file /etc/init.d/running-kernel from install of kernel-source-2.6.16.21-0.21 conflicts with file from package kernel-source-2.6.18_rc4-jen32

11:06 Mule:~ #

I am crossing my fingers and hoping someone can shed some light on why I can't downgrade this kernel-source package.

I have ran my workstation in init 1, used the previous kernel, and even failsafe - all give the same error response...

Oh, did I mention that 'smart --gui' no longer works?

HELP

I'd uninstall and reinstall SMART. I'd also poke around this link:

Well shoot! I thought I covered all of the bases...

I forgot to mention that I used YAST2 to uninstall SMART and reinstall it - and the smart gui too.

At this point, I wouldn't use Yast2 to install anything. Do the uninstall and install of smart from the command line. Of course, you might need to use to apt.
