I'm running Suse 9.0 and when I try to start a non-graphic sesión as root (after doing ctrl+alt+F2), my computer says that my login is incorrect. its something like this:
Albatross login: root
Password: [I enter my password]
login incorrect
I'm completly sure that my password was introduced correctly and specially because when I try to login as root with a terminal in KDE everything it's ok.
What's happening with my configuration?
If it helps, recently I had problems with /tmp/mcop-username and its ownership, problems that I resolved removing that component from tmp directory.
The problem could be if you are using z or y in your password. Maybe the codetable used in X is different than in console-mode. If you are not using z or y in your password, try resetting your password, with the passwd command.
No, I'm not using that caracters in my password, and there was a time when I could login without any problem. It's something in may configuration, and I think it's related with that problem in the ownership of /tmp/mcop-username because both problem came together.
I solved, I don't know how, the problem, but now (and after time working ok) I have another similar matter. When I try to login as root (wherever I try) I'm not able and receive this message:
su: cannot set groups: operation not permited
Could anyone please explain me what's the matter with my Suse?
Could anyone explain me how to avoid these kind of problems?
I have changed all the permissions (for entire /) to 777, is that ok? Could it be the alma mater of all my troubles?
