Useing SuSE 10.1
Newbe, surounded by strange names and terms.
Wants to do basic stuff.
CD's loaded fine.
Boots fine.
Cant play DVD's, use wifi gear, print.
Rather than reading dawn to dawn is there a step by step proceedure to follow for a lot of these snafu'd everyday questions?
FAQ's for 10.1 would be great.
There are so many unexplained options, some even contradictory it seems, or not available anymore.
Is there a web page for solutions to SuSE 10.1 humblings?

Thats really the best way to learn Linux. Lots of reading to understand how the OS really works. If you need help it is best to have each item as a seperate post. Many here can help you along the way. When doing so include Distro, Verison, Kernel, Gui you are using, Hardware details (Make, Model, Version).
Searching here wifi may pertain to the card itself if no linux module exist you will need to use ndiswrapper to set it up. Lots of post here and lots of info on google as well at the ndiswrapper wiki site.
DVD depends on which app you are using to view. There are so many to choose from.
Printing depends on the hardware again. Check out this site to see if listed and what is needed to get it installed and working. http://www.linuxprinting.org/cups-doc.html
As far as Suse goes there are a few forum web sites that are SUSE specfic. You can find them through google. Or check out SUSE web site and read all you can.
Believe me it is a lot easier these days with the internet to learn Linux. It was one big pain in the days of BBS's.
It would be best to start a post for each of the issues you have. If you do that please post your links to those post here so maybe others that read this one can go and see or help you out on them. There are so many post a day here and many just get past by.

When you're done installing SUSE Linux 10.1 OSS, your desktop system is not complete. You might still need support for Java programs, MP3 audio files, and browser plugins for Macromedia Flash, Adobe Acrobat, RealPlayer, and Windows Media Video. You may also want to add support for playing DVD videos on your computer, and to try out the new XGL graphical toys. Here's how to effectively make SUSE Linux 10.1 into the perfect desktop OS....
Over all it seems that to get stuff going, the solutions mentioned have requirements that other required applications be already installed prior to their being installed. Meaning if you install the "solution" it wont work unless those other gem's are loaded first.
You know like before you get the dog, you need the flea collor, and leash, and fence, and and and. Then the dog.
Once I got that straight in my head, It went really quickly.
This aint windows world in that reguard.
But it is all working now.
Once the scabs fall off Im going to try SMART.
For now, peace!
