easy upgrade 9.1 to 9.3

Hello!

I ask this question for a friend of mine who's using SuSe, and he's a very noob too.

He want's to upgrade SuSe 9.1 to 9.3 whitout loosing his data from the harddrive. He also want's to buy the original SuSe cd's. Can he choose an upgrade when installing from cd's? Or can he do it via network?
Please tell me what is an easy way of upgrading SuSe in this case. I cannot help him 'cause he is from Germany, I'm from Romania. I tried once this distribution but I didn't liked it, so I do not know many things about it.

Thank you in advance!

Regards, Boby!

I installed it from CD's a clean install but when asking for the type of installation there appears an update option. i think it could make the job. I have never tried an update i prefer a clean install so if your friend could make it please tell me.

No problem doing an update from CD or DVD but you'll have to wait until the full install for 9.3 is available before using a Suse network/FTP source.

I've upgraded each time, right through from 8.0 with no ill effects, several times from the FTP source (which I have mirrored locally and is much faster than over the internet) and for 9.2 to 9.3 using the CDs.

In either case use the boot CD and choose the update option. Then specify where the rest of the install is located as prompted.

For any install, DO BACKUP anything important beforehand and make notes on which partition has what on it.

Good Luck
