Lightbulb Copy of Suse Linux 9.2 DVD don't work

There are several ways to get a copy of the Suse Linux 9.2 CD's or DVD (e.g. P2P software).
I downloaded a image form the 9.2 pro, the dvd will boot but I cann't install (get the message 'This is not an original Suse Linux CD')
But there is a problem regarding the DVD's. The DVD's cann't really be copied because they are double layer DVD. not double side but double layer. (NO DVD IMAGE WILL WORK !). a correct image of the DVD wpuld have about 7.5 GB
I asked the Suse support and they confimed that the DVD cann't be copied in a normal way. you can copy only the cd's .
I found the DVD better as the 5 CD's and for all people who think the same I found a modified image (without the 64 bit programms) which is only 4.5 GB so you can burn it on a single-layer DVD.

Posts about downloading unauthorized copies of commercial products are against the LQ Rules. Suse does make a limited number of its offerings available for free download (ie, the Live Eval Personal edition) but if you want to acquire a legal and safe copy of their product, you will need to purchase it. -- J.W.

I agree... BUT I will testify that you can copy the SUSE 9.2 DVD. I made a DL copy via 9.2 using a NEC 3500A. Now.. the booktype is off for use in other DVD units, but the DVD does boot and is usable via the 3500A. I will try another with a modified booktype and see it will work... my guess is that it will.

This seems to be an eternal struggle with linux. I wonder about some of the websites I've seen advertising 9.2 Pro incredibly cheap ($11 bucks and up). While I'm a skin flint, I'll stick with a creditable download or purchase a box with a Novell logo for my production box. I've got a 9.1 Pro DVD on the home machine, and 9.1 Personal from the ftp on a laptop. I'm happier, and securer knowing any flaws with them lay with Novell ... not with someone taking a long term chance on an anynomous donor. Having said that, I don't have an issue with someone having a copy of the open GPL ... rules of the road and SuSe is on that bandwagon too, but if you want support and b!t@h'n rights ... best buy a copy!

Incidentally, you can find SuSe at alot of retailers:

Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....4&type=product

Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...tware&n=507846

Fry's Outpost:
http://shop3.outpost.com/product/427...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG

TechDepot:
http://www.techdepot.com/product.asp...&HKeyword=suse

... and if your a student, buy direct from Novell - $60.

Don't have $60 ... check out the bit torrent, eh ... who knows!

End of my political commentary.
