Cannot boot SuSE v9.3 Prof or XP

When the boot loader (Lilo) should load, the error

[code]No operating system[code]

appears.

What I do is then insert the Installation Disk 1 and choose Boot into Installled System.

I installed SuSE over a Mandriva 10.1 installation. The Mandrake Lilo was still appearing after I had installed SuSE and this problem started after I ran the Boot Loader Configuration.

So you didn't delete Mandriva and kept the partitions untouched? Hmm, if that was a good idea

Can't you just re-write the bootloader using YaST? Check if the settings are correct (point to the correct partition) and write it to the MBR again. Otherwise you may want to try grub instead of lilo. This may solve troubles with leftover configuration files from Mandriva.

If you have re-arranged partitions, again make sure that what used to be your root partition still is called hda3. Good luck!

No. The partition that had Mandriva I deleted and recreated a partition for SuSE (same size) during the installation process.

I have tried using YaST to re-write the MBR. Checked the Activate Boot Partition (or similar item) and Replace MBR as well.

I thought this morning that I should try to use GRUB and see where that takes me.

The partition thing is unimportant surely as the bootloader doesn't appear. It's not a case of I get to the menu and the error occurs when I choose an option.

I did a new install of SUSE and selected GRUB as the bootloader. After completion of install the 1st disk, the system reboots. GRUB tries to reload and I get an error 22.

What does this mean?

Looking at that lilo.conf file, should the boot not point to /dev/hda? After all my BIOS boot sequence (has been for over a year now) Floppy, CD-ROM and HDD-0.
