Can't install Suse 9.2- won't find SATA hard drive on SN95g5v2

Hi all.
I had a similar problem with Mandrake and was recommended to try SUSE. Having downloaded the 9.2. DVD I tried installation and got the same problem. "Error- no hard drive found"... It's loaded the Nvidia SATA driver which is what it needs as far as I know, but it won't find the hard drive so I can't install
I've got Windows XP 64-bit edition installed fine- it found the hard drive with no problems...
Can anyone help me here?
Many thanks

It's been a while since I had an SATA drive to play with,
but here's what I remember.

In order to get suse (9.0??) to recognize the SATA drive,
I had to first go into the BIOS setup and enable the SATA
subsystem.

The SATA drives were then recognized and the first one
was given the device name of /dev/sda (like a SCSI drive).

Be sure to follow-up and post how you succeeded.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.
SATA subsystem? I'll have a look but I don't think I have an option like that... SATA is all enabled etc, because otherwise XP wouldnt' have installed...

EDIT: No I can't find anything like that.

Sorry, I missed the part about (choke, choke) XP
finding the drive.

I haven't run Windows in so long, I just am unable
to recognize it.

suse 9.2 kernel 2.6.11 worked

follow this link for dell 8400 sata/ahci + (suse 9.2) linux
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...39#post1515239

essence:
- I installed suse 9.2 with bios autoraid/(p)ata
- I updated to kernel 2.6.11, with standard settings.
....
CONFIG_SCSI_SATA=y
# CONFIG_SCSI_SATA_AHCI is not set
CONFIG_SCSI_SATA_SVW=m
CONFIG_SCSI_ATA_PIIX=m
....
- and I could boot from auroraid/sata and autoaid/(p)ata
sothat I have now a dual boot windows / linux system

I added module "subfs.ko" for dvd/cdrom support to kernel 2.6.11:
installed submount-0.9.tar.gz from sourceforge
