10.3 and acpi

I have an old (2001) laptop (Medion MD6100 p4 with nvidia geforce 488go dual boot with xp) on which i used different versions of suse, solaris (not a good idea) and zenwalk, all without problem. Now i bought opensuse 10.3 and to my surprise it installed only with acpi=off. Same with booting. If not the system freezes after loading the kernel. I took the old installation dvd of version 10.0 and it loaded and ran.

So, what's going on with acpi in this kernel? If anyone has an idea, it's very welcome.
