Angry Error : Could not find mime type, application/octet-stream

Hi,
I am using SUSE 10.2 from last 1 week. From yesterday after installing MPlayer and its essential codec package I am getting a message "Sorry! Could not find mime type. application/octet-stream ".

Please help me to solve this problem....

Thanks,
Binoy

First,
try to run update-mime-database /usr/share/mine
Probably restart your window manager then.
Are u using kde? Where/how do you get this message?

Did you get this solved? If not you can do this:

$ vim /home/$USER/.kde3.5/share/mimelnk/application/octet-stream.desktop

change:

Hidden=true

to:

Hidden=false

Hey,
I had the same problem and the second tip solved it. Could you tell what was causing this error?
