Changing GDM Themes On OpenSUSE Linux 10.0

I've been trying to install a new GDM login manager theme for the last two days on OpenSUSE 10.0, and the process is simply not working. The shell doesn't even recognize gdmsetup as a command, no matter where I look I can't even find gdm.conf, and can't find the setting in the sysconfig editor in YaST2 (and yes, GDM is indeed installed and running). Nothing I've found on this forum works (nor nothing else I've found). Any ideas??

What Display Manager are you using? KDE or Gnome?

Launch Kcontrol --> Apperance and Themes --> Slash Screens

Not using Suse, but in Fedora, (Gnome), there is an icon for gdmsetup under the menu "System --> Administration". My gdmsetup in located in /usr/bin, but it is symlinked to a binary called "/usr/bin/consolehelper". Does gdmsetup exist on your system? It seems odd Suse does not have a graphical tool for managing GDM - it has graphical tools for manageing everything else...

My display manager is GNOME, I don't even have KDE installed.

I'm guessing it has it, it's just hidden away somewhere. SUSE has a tendency to put configuration files in weird locations.
Now, I'm able to find gdm.conf (which manages the exact same settings, but I'd rather not use it simply because it's too complex when I could be using a graphical tool), but gdmsetup is not in the same directory.

So are you saying you didn't have anything under:

Kcontrol --> Apperance & Themes --> Splash Screens

Cool gdmsetup

Hello my friends!!

I am not a guru but I think I have your solution. I am using Suse 10.1 and gnome as my default desktop tool. the gdmsetup is under /opt/gnome/sbin/ once you are there you could just type ./gdmsetup and you will be able to install the theme you want.

good luck!

xam
