solaris firewall


Linux has iptables, what is the equiv. on a Solaris machine?

I've seen ipfilter mentioned alot.

Also, first hit on a google search and it brought up this link which seems like a good way to secure your machine: http://www.roble.com/docs/secure_solaris.html

I do believe 2.8 is actually Solaris 8 as well. They called it 2.X series up until 7 when they released 2.7 but called it Solaris 7 instead. Kind of like what Windows does, Windows 95 was actually Windows 4.0 after the 3.11 series.. and so on..

So 2.8 isn't that old, might be slightly outdated but still yet, not that old..

Solaris 9 now comes with SunScreen... It's an optional install package...but you can install it.

You can also get SunScreen Lite for Solaris 8 as a download.

The guide that tricky refers to is for solaris 2.6, the principals are the same though, Sunscreen is good, but the full featured software goes for 15k USD! The open source tools are a better bet.
