First off, let me say that this is a great site, very useful.

On to my problem:
When I install Slackware 9.1 from CD everything works fine up to the point where I'm supposed to pick my source media. I can boot the machine from atapi-cdrom, set up a partition table with cfdisk, start setup, format the partitions, etc. but when I pick 'Install from Slackware CD/DVD' for some reason it doesn't detect a Slackware CD in the CD-Drive.

Now, the weird thing is that this only happens if I set up Swap partitions. Basically, if I just make regular linux partitions everything works the way it's supposed to, the CD is being detected and I can complete the installation without problems.

Some Specs:
CD-ROM: Sony DRU-500A (DVD RW) as hdc
Mainboard: MSI K7D Master
CPU: Athlon 2200mp (x2)
RAM: 1GB
Hard Drives: WD Caviar 80GB (x2, hda and hdb)

In that case just create an ext3 partition where you want a swap partition, do the install and then create the swap partition later.

Do I need a swap partion? Because what I did was wipe out my hd and im going pure linux? But i read a guide and it didn't mention anything about that.. whats your take?

You don't need one, but it's highly recommended that you have one. Most distros will suggest that you make one. In general, try and make it the same size or bigger than your RAM.

wethor or not you *need* a swap partition really depends on what you plan to do with your system. i run linux on my laptop with 512mb ram, and i use my system for surfing the web, doing school work (papers, programming assignments, ect) and watching dvds. when i initially installed, i set up a 512mb swap. however, my system like never touched the swap. i have since changed it to 128mb, keeping it in case it was needed for some reason....but i have not noticed any change. if you are not worried about hardrive space (you have alot more room than i do on my laptop), there is no real reason not to have one....
