Slack 10 2.6.x Install

Ok, I'm ready to try Slack 10.0 and leave Mandy 10.0. MDK is the only distribution I have spent any time on since I converted to linux last December. I only have kernel experience with 2.6.3-7mdk and updated that to 2.6.7 followed by 2.6.8.1. I *really* would like to install Slack 10.0 with 2.6.7 and then add 2.6.8.1 later. I think the 2.4.x kernel is different enough that I would prefer not to have it installed. I should probably point out that I am trying to learn linux hence my move to Slack and a move away from non kernel.org kernels. During my time in Mandy I tried hard to avoid the dreaded drake tools and perform configs myself...hopefully this will help with my Slack install!

I've read alot of threads about people modifying the install isos to accommodate SATA drives which I think is akin to performing a Slack 10.0 install with with 2.6.x kernel.

I've read the "Essential" book virtually front to back and I was hoping perhaps I could copy my MDK 2.6.7 image (I don't know what files) and put them somewhere and during the Slack install when the kernel selection part comes up...I could point to my MDK 2.6.7 kernel which I configured and downloaded from kernel.org.

Is my thinking straight on this? I know Slack has a great reputation for stability (hence the 2.4.x kernel by default) but I had problems with USB on Mandy 10 at 2.6.3-7mdk. As soon as I switched to 2.6.7 life was good. I want to use 2.6.7 by default and play around with 2.6.8.1 until the cdrecord/k3b permission issues clear up.

Anyone installed Slack 10.0 using 2.6.x and not 2.4.x? If so, how -v. The -v is for verbose! :-)

Thanks so much,
Rich

the easiest way would be to do a full install......when the system reboots==

use pkgtool to take out the 2.4 kernel AND 2.4 modules packages... and install 2.6 kernel
