New to slackware setting up xterm

Hello,

I am a new user to linux and slackware and am trying to set up xterm and networking so I can play around with it. when i run xterm it says

"xterm Xt error: Can't open display:127.0.0.1:0"

As I said before I am an extremely new user to linux and grabbed slackware because a friend said that I would like that the best. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Could it be that you didn't start "X", the graphical subsystem? If so, type "startx".
