Need a slightly modified bootdisk....

I'll keep this short and sweet.

I'm trying to install Slack 10 on a system with an A7V333 mainboard. This board uses the Promise PDC20276 MBFastTrak RAID controller.

I've tried installing using the ataraid.i bootdisk, but it does not detect the controller. After a bit of research I discovered that the kernel needs to have CONFIG_PDC202XX_FORCE=y set in order to detect the controller.

How can I get a version of ataraid.i with only that one modification?

I do not currently have access to a linux system to build a custom kernel myself and I cannot remove the drive to a non-raid channel as it is part of a working array.

Thanks!

I would use an old test machine and compile the kernel that I wanted, then stick in a formatted floppy and run:

makebootdisk

Thats were I would start-- I <knocking on wood> have never been in that unfortunate situation.

Good luck -- post back if you have success

I know there is a way to make an ISO from the packages in the slackware repository, though I dont know how. Maybe you could make your own cd with the right kernel in it.

Just some random thoughts....

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually solved the problem over the weekend!

I ended up finding an ancient (in computer terms anyway) 4.3gb hd and hooked that up to my regular controller, installed slack on there and modified the config file in /kernels/ataraid.i from the iso to include the options I needed. Then I built that kernel and replaced all instances of ataraid.i on the install cd with my modified version. It took quite a bit of playing around to get it just right, but it's working for the moment!

Now comes the really fun part: getting my wlan card working using ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers.....

Thanks again though.

Thanks for posting back-- It does make more sense to use a hardrive on the actual machine than making a boot disk. Good solution.
