Installer suggestions

I have tried out distro's for years, and I am still a noob. I suspect I will for for a long time still. As far as I understand, Slack is the optimal one for me.

Anyway, if I have suggestions about the way Slackware is installed, what/where would be the best to submit my opinions?

And is there a place I can see which other suggestions have already been submitted?

Please bear in mind, I don't want to totally turn a otherwise great distro upside down.

Hi!

You can always post your opinions in this very forum; that's what the forum is all about. Maybe other people will have answers for you. You can also try and email your suggestions to the Slackware maintainer.

This is the OFFICIAL Slackware forum, so if you're not gonna send them to Pat, this is the place!

Yes I suppose I can. Just that I wanted to know if there was someplace special for these matters already.

But here I go with my wishes for an improved installer.

First and foremost!
The ability to back up and change a decision. It doesn't take many taps on a keyboard before a session of 20 minutes are ruined.

Secondly:
Saving the install session on a floppy or a "configfile". Due to the previous suggestion I have begun countless installs. And due to problems with partitions being too small or the like, I have also been aborted late in the install, only to begin all over again.

Saving tags? I have looked at it, still haven't sorted that out.

Thirdly:
An estimation of required diskspace the chosen packages will need. I have had installs going through the roof. Not much of a functioning system comes out of that. Funny thing, the installer doesn't abort, it just goes on installing into ... /dev/null. Just says "no space left on disk" and goes on.

Well, I have a few more odd things, but these I just had to get off my chest. Surely I can't be the first to notice this, can I? I am most definately not asking for the installer to wipe my butt for me, but I am now a seasoned Slackware installer because of these matters. It gets old.

I am reluctant to send directly to maintainers and Pat in particular. I am quite certain he and the others have mail enough to answer anyway.

And I believe that ideas ought to be filtered, reviewed and honed before taken seriously.

So yes, I will post my woes here.

It's not really my meaning to bump this thread but ....

No one around to say this has ben discussed to bits and fed up with it?

No other opinions? Bad/good?

If not, I'll send it to the developers.

Best regards, Wed
