You have to have the game for linux. If you don't have it for Linux, but you do for windows, then just download the newest point release from the internet for Linux (http://www.fileplanet.com/files/60000/61609.shtml). If you hate FilePlanet as bad as I do then just google the filename to come up with a different site. to install that, you must be root and run the command "sh linuxq3apoint-1.32b.x86.run". All you really have to do is copy the entire quake3 directory from windows to someplace on linux and get a linux executable. The linux exectuable is included in the point release.

Hope that helps.

You don't need to copy the entire windows Q3 directory, in fact, that will most likely mess up the game. Just install the point release (I know you don't have Q3 installed yet, don't worry, the PR will still install) and copy the file pak0.pak to your "/usr/local/games/quake3/baseq3/" directory.

"Quake3" at the console and you're off!

Nvidia Drivers

i'm a linux newb and am tryin to install q3 onto Mandrake 10.0
I have an Xtasy GeForce Ti4600
Can someone direct me to the drivers I need for my graphics adapter and how to install them, I know I need OpenGL or something of that sort to play q3. If anyone can shed light onto this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Go to www.nvidia.com and download the drivers. Click on "Download Drivers" and then click the link above the menus that says "Linux and FreeBSD drivers". The drivers are there.

You'll most likely be after the "Linux IA32" version. Make sure you pick the top-most link, the links at the bottom are for the nForce motherboards, not your GeForce.

Best of luck!
