Hi,

The 'wl' is the standard propriety driver & firmware. Apparently the chipset you use is not supported by that driver & firmware.

What does 'lspci -nn' show for the device? You don't have to attach, just place the output within vbcode tags # or quote. Not everyone will open an attached file. Just present the necessary output. If you look at the output you will see something in the order of;
Quote:
05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g [14e4:4312] (rev 01)
Notice the '[14e4:4312]' is the assigned ID for a BCM4312. Your' will be different.

I would try the b43 & firmware.

One other thing, if you do use 'wicd' then revert to the original form for '/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf'. Your currently setting up wlan0.

huh, whenever I wanted to know my specs I would look them up online and it would say my model laptop has Broadcom 4321 a/b/g/n I was going by that.
also how do I try the b43 & firmware?

Hi,

You must install 'b43-firmware' by using b43-fwcutter instead of the Broadcom-sta package. You are now using a Broadcom propriety driver which does have the firmware.

The b43-firmware from the use of b43-fwcutter, firmware will be placed in '/lib/firmware/b43' directory. You would then use the b43 driver that comes with Slackware 13.1. Slackware nor any GNU/Linux are allowed to include propriety firmware.

You need to remove the packages that you installed for the 'STA' propriety Broadcom. Then install firmware for the b43.

ok I will try installing it again, I installed the STA stuff from slackbuilds, which is easier for me to use. Do I need to remove the B43-fwcutter slackbuild as well? The first time I tried to install B43 it was missing some file, or if it was there I couldn't find it.

Hi,

I said that in my previous post. You need the b43 driver along with the firmware from fw-cutter.
