Unhappy help cant boot up anymore../bin/sh errors

Hi

I turned on my computer today and got the following error message

**
.
.
usual stuff
.
.
.
INIT:version 2.84 booting
/bin/sh:error while loading shared libraries: libtermcap.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
INIT: entering runlevel 4
/bin/sh:error while loading shared libraries: libtermcap.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/bin/sh:error while loading shared libraries: libtermcap.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

At this point it stops.

**
tried using bootdisk but get same thing...

Last night i was updating via Swaret (great program) I was updating various things..i can remember a few only - some dependencies for DVD::rip - transcode/ImageMagik etc - cant remember much else...the main thing was that my machine froze on one of the updates (downloading it not installing). I switched my machine off and then turned it on again a short while ago.

I have absolutely no idea what i did (or didnt do). I cant find my original Slack disks although i can reburn them later at a friends if needed.

I really dont want to reinstall from scratch as i have spent a long time getting things working and set up as i like it....but if that is the only thing i can do then i will do it.

thanks
Ali

phunky

you may be an ideal candidate to consider using a partition image system to restore your system. It especially works work on clean installs and clean added software ie no browsing or adding junk software between images.

if interested heres the web site www.partimage.org
