Double Trouble: Music cd's not loading and video device problems.

Hi, I won't hesitate to say I'm new at this however I do know some of the basics. Here's one of the problems, when I put in an audio cd, say Smashing Pumpkins and try to mount it I get the error reding along the lines of too many mounted devices, fstab error and so forth. But when I put in something like Unreal Tournament 2004 and try to mount it it's flawless.

When I go ahead and try to play UnrealTournament2004 I get a missing file msg in the terminal along the lines of xfree86-dri missing display error 0x0. Do I need to update drivers?

Audio CD's do not need to be mounted, although data CD's do. Based on your description, things are probably OK. Next time you want to listen to Siamese Dream, just put it in the CD drive, launch the player, and turn it up. -- J.W.

J.W. is correct, however Konqueror has an audio file browser mode that allows you to view and copy the contents of an audio CD as if it were mounted, you can even rip to ogg, mp3 or wav with settings pre-configured in the AudioCD module in the control center.
For UT04, what video card do you have and what drivers are currently installed for said card?

My problem is, since upgrading to KDE 3.2.2 (I think that's when it started), audio apps won't recognize music CDs and therefore won't play them. I CAN play CDs using Workbone. Any suggestions?

Oops, never mind. Permission wasn't set correctly. Now it works.

For a video card i have a Geforce FX5900SE I tried to get new drivers off of the nvidia website but it wouldn't dowbload correctly, perhaps you know of another site?

As for audio, a quick question, do I need to hook up an audio cable from my cdrom to sound card?

No, they are only available at the nvidia download page.
How were you downloading them and did you try a right click and "save target as"?

Yes i right-clicked and saved target as to a floppy, but it wouldn't actually save, the floppy was formatted. If i do manage to get the IA32 driver though do i install it simply by cut and pate or is there some special way to do it?

I am aware that there is a readme with the installation but it is extremely vague. I'm downloading on a windows machine and putting it onto a dual boot. Do i put the file onto the computer then type "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5336-pkg1.run" or can i get it to run off a floppy? Also, in terminal should i specify the folder its in? From what I've read it seems that i should put /usr or /home in front of that line.

The nvidia installer is too big to fit on a floppy, but never mind because linux can read windows file systems, save it to My Documents-->Nvidia Linux and then copy it to your home directory after rebooting into linux. You may need to mount the partition that your C "drive" is on first, and if it's formatted as NTFS you'll need to load the ntfs module before you can mount it - and don't attempt to write to a ntfs partition, you can read them safely but writing to them can cause data corruption.

I tried plugging in the audio cable, but it wouldn't recognize my CD-RW drive, I have DVD-Rom and CDRW, any suggestions on how to fix it so both are recognized, should i create a kernel or edit fstab? My DVD-Rom is whats being recognized and since i hooked up with cdrw plugged in i have a feeling thats why there is no sound, so when i switched it im listening to smashing pumpkins . A little help on the multiple rom drives would help.
It's actually odd, because i insalled slackware on my CDRW but my dvdrom is being recognized as cdrom. i can switch the audio cable, but how do i switch drives?
