Booting halts with the following msg., "loading linuxebda is big; kernel setup stack overlaps lilo second stage"
I've just installed 32bit slack 15 on my old p4. Also selected "automatic LILO installation at MBR" but after successful installation, booting halts with the following message: loading linuxebda is big; kernel setup stsck overlaps lilo second stage .
I installed slack many times before but never faced this kinda situation.
I can't even boot to replace lilo.conf with my backed up copy of lilo.conf.
If 32 bit Slackware has genintrd, you may need to run that again as well.
Could you please explain it to me? I mean what's genintrd? never heard of it. I've just heard elilo but no idea of it is. I guess it's an extented lilo but i'm not sure.
geninitrd is a script that is run on initially installing Slackware. It creates the special kernel package that is loaded by lilo when you select Slackware from the power up menu.
Also, you are correct in assuming that elilo is the new, UEFI, version of lilo.
Finally, what has happened to you is what has happened to me too. We have had a new kernel that is larger than the space allocated on disk for lilo+kernel. The kernel has overwritten a bit of lilo, making it useless. We have had to install lilo, and in my case, the kernel also.
