xf86config set to bad refresh rate

I set the refresh rate incorrectly in xf86config and need to know what I need to do at the boot screen so that I can get to just the command line so I can fix the problem without the disply setting causing problems. I can get to Lilo and watch the boot all of the way until it automaticly loads startx... Then the monitor says "out of range"

Just FYI... I'm not sure if this information will help.
Slackware 9.1
Xfree86 4.3.0
Radeon 9500 128 Megs

Viewsonic 17inch LCD
Frequency Fh:30~82kHz, fv:50~75 Hz

If I can't get right to the command line from Lilo, is there something else I can do?

Maybe boot up the slack live cd or knoppix so you can run xf86config again or hand edit /etc/X11/XF86Config?

I always boot to runlevel 3 and then startx by hand, it makes fixing stuff like that a lot easier.

Just pick one menu position (starting Kernel you need) during LILO booting. It will appear in "boot :" prompt, then type :
init 3
just after it and you will be in text mode (level 3).
