X wont start with geforce4

I cannot get x to start with my geforce4 card. I ran xf86config and installed the nvidia drivers. When I start x the i see a nvidia logo breiflt in the lower right hand corner and the the server crashes. The error message reads failed to load glx. I also get a buch of errors about my mouse. I'm running a microsoft usb mouse
