Why isn't my TouchPad mouse working?

Witch module did I fail to load/build in the kernel?
The kernel is 2.6.20.7
I know it must be a kernel module but I just can't locate it.

Depends on the pad... look under HID, it's there with the mice if I remember correctly. Or you could just build the lot as modules.

When recompiling a kernel, it is essential to keep a working config on hand.

Well I do have a USB rat and I didn't care much for the touchpad, but now I have nothing better to do than to fix the touchpad
Thank you for your advice
