What config option needed for usb wifi rt2x00 modules?

I need some help. I have a system using a Linksys WUSB54B usb wifi adapter that needs the rt2x00/rt2500 modules. Using the fresh install kernel, 2.6.29.6-smp, the modules are there and I get my interface up.

But, when I configure my own kernel, not an smp system, I cannot find the .config option in the menu for rt2x00 network adapter support and the modules are not in /lib/modules/vmlinuz-2.6.29.6-first directory tree after a "make modules_install".

I looked through the configuration menu, but could find no reference to the rt2x00 drivers.

I don't know the answer off the top of my head, but chapters 7 and 8 of this book have some great tips and scripts on how to figure out issues like this:

Thanks mcnalu, I did that and I got the info, but I think there is another problem. I traced it into menconfig

Symbol: RT2500USB [=n]
Prompt: Ralink rt2500 (USB) support
Defined at drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/Kconfig:56
Depends on: NETDEVICES && !S390 && RT2X00 && USB
Location:
-> Device Drivers
-> Network device support (NETDEVICES [=y])
-> Wireless LAN
-> Ralink driver support (RT2X00 [=n])
Selects: RT2X00_LIB_USB && RT2X00_LIB_CRYPTO

But, however no Ralink driver support prompt. I checked
Symbol: NETDEVICES [=y]
Symbol: S390 [=S390]
Symbol: USB [=y]

So, the only question is the !390, (NOT 390?), where is it set? It doesn't have a prompt listed, only the symbol line is listed in the search.

But, so far I have learned a heck of a lot.

Problem solved.

I enabled "LED Toggle" on another menu and the menu items for the rt2x00 finally appeared and I could select them.

Wifi up and running.

But, why didn't the search on rt2x00 list is as needed?

Glad you got it sorted - sounded like quite a puzzle!
