I'm using vmware on Slackware 10.2 with the 2.4 kernel with no issues. As long as you set it up properly your good to go. However to run it well you need lots of system ram and a pretty new system. at least a 1 gig cpu with 512 megs of ram.

The only thing it lacks is pcmcia support. You see I run vmware on my laptop and can't use my wireless because its a pcmcia card. So I'm stuck with a wired connection if I use vmware and need net connection.

It's a really good program for those programs that only run on Windows. It works very well especially version 5 running a Linux host.

If you can think of it, let me know if it works for you. I still have no idea as to why Firedo was getting that patching problem. I posted the patch seperate. If it happens for you, and it shouldn't, just cd into /tmp/package/usr/bin/ and manually patch vmware-config.pl and then cd into /tmp/package-vmware and 'makepkg vmware-5.5.0_whatever.tgz"

Oh wait.. wrong thread... :-) This script is for vmware-5.0

There is another one for the latest vmware 5.5.0 floating around here. Someone was having problems with the newer script patching vmware-config.pl (to make the sysvinit directories)...

Sorry, just woke up. These slackware scripts are pretty easy to understand if you run into problems. They are just regular bash commands after all...
