VMware/slack

I'm trying to configure vmware workstation on my slackware 10 system.

When as root I run 'vmware-config.pl' I get this.

Code:
Making sure VMware Workstation's services are stopped.

sh: line 1: /etc/vmware: is a directory
Unable to stop VMware Workstation's services.

Execution aborted.
I then tried 'vmware stop'

the result
Code:
VMware Workstation is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for your running kernel. To (re-)configure it, your system administrator must find and run "vmware-config.pl". For more information, please read file "INSTALL" in the VMware Workstation documentation directory.
I get this message in a vmware window..
Any suggestions?

hmm... strange error

it looks like /etc/vmware is not supposed to be a directory; what is in that directory? if there is nothing, remove it with rm -rf /etc/vmware, and you may even want to redo the vmware-install.pl from the tarball

this guide may also be helpful for installing vmware in slackware:
