First of all, I don't know anyrhing about Vector 4.3. But it seems that there is some descripency with your problem with Slackware 10.0.

Did you managed to install it and boot it? Cause you said you can't get xwindow started AND you said you can't install on nforce 2 boards.

I am sure there is users here who did manage to install and run Slackware 10.0 on nforce 2 boards.

As for xwindow, you need to configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf in order to get Xwindow running correctly. There are a few standard scripts which helps you configure xwindow. I can't remember the commands as I don't use them. I'm sure many of us here can address that.

It would be nice to address the issue instead of jumping to other distro. In the process, we learn new stuff and become more competent Linux user.

I may have had a similar problem. I had used Vector for a while before changing to Slackware. When I first installed Slackware I couldn't get x configured properly for my 1400x1050 notebook screen. I saved the x config file (I believe it was also xorg.conf) that Vector had made, then reused it when I installed Slackware. It worked fine.

If you like Vector, you'll like Slackware even more, since it's Vector's big brother.

could not get startx to start. first of all there was no leadtek geforce 3 card in the video card list, so i choose vga generic. don,t understand why i did not get into the desktop with startx. the last slackware i installed was 8, and i did get it installed.

You should use
Code:
 Driver "nv"
for nvidia cards. You can download nvidia Linux driver from their website.

leadtek is the manufacturer for the card which uses geforce 3 chipset. The chipset is what matters.
