Using Wine

I downloaded and burnt Slax-5.0.7b. I tried running as a newbie by loading Wine so I could run Windows Apps (right?). I got a little confused, so I double clicked on a MS Word doc from KDE and the thing just froze.

Fearing for the life of my computer, I manually switched off and haven't gone back since. Am I safe using Linux? How do I use Wine?

Slax is a live distribution, that runs in memory, so it should not damage your current setup.

wine is used like this

wine QW.EXE

For more details open a terminal and type

man wine

I tried using wine as suggested but I failed.

Secondly and most important, I need to access internet using slax, but I cannot configure KPPP. I use dialup on a fixed wireless modem connection. Do I have to install the driver as we do in Windows?

In addition, I need to know how to save my settings during a slax session so that I can use them next time.

Finally, how do I install slax from CD onto usb?

Thanx in anticipation.

I'm not familiar with slax, but generally you will find wine in a hidden folder in the home directory. Try this in a terminal; 'wine notepad' or possibly 'wine notepad.exe'.
Notepad and minesweep should be included in wine, after that you have to install programs.
That pretty much exhausts my knowledge of your questions

Edit/ OOPs,I'm an idiot,QW.EXE should also work.

Wine just doesn't work. I think wine is not included in slax live distro.

At the moment, I don't want to install slax on my hard drive. So I will run it off CD for a while. The other problem this causes is that I cannot write to the hard drive. Why is this?

SLAX Kill Bill does include WINE

Hi

"Normal" SLAX does not include WINE, but SLAX KillBill edition does. As far as I know normal SLAX does not run WINE.

I used an earlier version of SLAX (5.0.5 I guess) and Wine worked well but the graphical Kommander-based interface didn't.

You do not need Wine or M$ 0ffic3 to open a .doc document. Use OpenOffice.org from www.openoffice.org

Good luck!
