usb mouse and cdrom access problem

Recently installed SL10.1 during wc install I chose auto or usb for mouse install. But do not have scroll wheel. I have USB MS IntelliEye. Scrollwheel works fine under Xandros, kanotix, libranet. Copying their xorg mouse sexn yields crashes or no mouse axn. Tried suggestions under similar posts w/o scroll wheel. This is my "InputDevice" Identifier. "mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option. "Device" "dev/mouse" Option "Emulate3Button".
Now I have sound but cannot access /dev/cdrom or /dev/crom1. Having kernel 4.30, I wrote hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi durig install. And added /dev/cdrom1. And checked that /etc/fstab had both cdrom1 and cdrom with root and user added before the 0 0 for both entries. Previous install didnt give access error message. Tried ln -sf /dev/sr /dev/cdrom as per jetblackz config guide. Suggesions please. My Running Linux book is not too specific on chown or chmod.

To get mouse wheel working check this: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...wheel_mouse.3F

After you make you emulate your cdroms as scsi (needed for burning in 2.4 kernels) the device name changes to: /dev/scdX where X is the number.
So you've to relink /dev/cdrom to /dev/scd0 with:
Code:
  cd /dev
  rm cdrom
  ln -sf scd0 cdrom
For cdrom1 should be scd1

What about /dev/sr0?
Did you restart X after editing it?
If still doesn't work, post the relevant part (mouse one) of /etc/X11/xorg.conf file here.

mouse and cdrom access

After 3reboots now have scroll wheel. Thanx. But still have make sure you have access permission for cdom and cdrom1 even after rm cdrom amd cdrom1 then ln -sf commands. etc/fstab has cdrom and cdrom1 with noauto, users, and ro before 0 0 in respective lines. mnt /dev/cdrom says cdrom is not a directory. Did do cd /dev rm cdrom and same for cdrom1 then ln -sf scd0 /dev/cdrom and ln -sf scd1 /dev/cdrom1. Reboots give same permission error. Never had this problem with SL10 or 9.1 nor with kanotix, libranet nor xandros. Thanx

You've to use: mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
or mount /mnt/cdrom
The latest will use the dev specified in fstab.
You don't have to reboot.
Test it without editing the symlinks:
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom
mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom
mount /dev/sr /mnt/cdrom

Try those as root and see which one is the one you need.

cdrom problems

Finally re-installed 10.1 and swareted to current. Now after using IMPS/2 for mouse with zaxis mapping "4 5"and Buttons 5 scroll wheel works. Both cdrom drives work. But can only play music on /dev/cdrom. Changing setup for kscd or cd player to use /dev/cdrom1 yields no sound. Cdrom1 is slave to cdrom.
Have linked sr0 to /dev/cdrom and sr1 to /dev/cdrom1. Also /dev/dvd to /dev/cdrom1 since it is a dvd recorder and player. This last following' jetblackz' SL10 config guide. Hopefully, the 2nd cdrom will also play music. Thanx for your kind attention.

Do you've a second sound cable connected from your DVD player to your soundcard? If you're playing audio CDs using the analogic way you need the cable. I don't know about those players but in XMMS you can choose to read the audio CDs digitally.

Nice to see you've most things working, you generally don't need to reinstall to solve this stuff, it just takes sometime "debugging" the problem.

It's my pleasure to help
