updating shared library links

While i boot slackware 9.1, in the end it shows :
updating shared library links ( /sbin/ldconfig )

it takes about 6 seconds to do the job. is this normal ? i uninstalled gnome and a lot of other stuff i don't need, and now i have a 950MB swap ! it still
looks slow in the end ( i am using reiserfs ). thanks for your time
