understanding oss modules

i have snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss loaded in rc.modules

is snd-seq-oss needed? i don't use it

i am using alsa with a oss emulation layer, its works because i use xmms with the oss module and it works fine.

that's the midi sequencer module, so no you don't need it unless you're playing midi files and such. why use OSS emulation at all if you don't need to though? avoid if possible.

i could just get rid of the other two oss modules as you say.
i guess snd-pcm-oss is for any other sounds thats not midi and other is obviously the mixer, i use the alsmixer but without the oss mixer snd-pcm-oss would not work.

well yes, but you ideally shouldn't need the pcm-oss module anyway, if you can use real alsa instead.
