Not sure if I'm on the right track, but is your /etc/modules.conf set up properly? I know that mine has a bunch of aliases in it, and it looks like you're having some problem resolving unknown terms.

Snippet of my modules.conf:
...
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
...

If youre /etc/modules.conf is empty or something, try checking the alsa website (they have extensive card-specific documentation and example confs).

HTH.

My modules.conf has got the following aliases:
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

which seems to be the same as you, so something good must have happened during the module installation :-)
Still doesn't work though.

Thanks for your time.
