udev, 2.6.10, /dev/dsp not found

Hi
I am running slackware 10.1 using a 2.6.10 kernel compiled from the sources in /testing.
Whenever i use an application that tries to access /dev/dsp, i get an error saying it does not exist. However, sound does work with ALSA (I can play music, hear the KDE sounds).

I have a /dev/snd and /dev/sound folder

this is the output of ls -al /dev/* | grep audio

crw-rw--w- 1 root audio 14, 9 2005-05-17 00:03 /dev/dmmidi
crw-rw--w- 1 root audio 14, 2 2005-05-17 00:03 /dev/midi

crw-rw--w- 1 root audio 14, 0 2005-05-17 00:03 mixer

the output of lsmod (my card is a turtle beach santa cruz using a cirrus soundfusion chip)

is there any way i can get udev to add a /dev/dsp, or symlink to something that will work?

my main concern is for games (quake3 and ut2k4 both give the same /dev/dsp not found error)

Thanks

Try:

modprobe snd_pcm_oss

And then see if you get the device.

/dev/dsp is an oss device, and you only have one of the two alsa oss-emulation modules loaded.

turns out I only included the oss mixer support but forgot to include the oss pcm support when I compiled the kernel, recompiled with the support included, now /dev/dsp is there and the games can use it fine

Thanks!
