Transcode compile problem

Hi all,

Having the following problem with compiling transcode, I tried the slackbuilds and that is failing as well so I thought Id try the source files

ffmpeg compiles fine,
x264 compiles fine,
transcode creates the following error ..

checking for XpmFreeAttributes in -lXpm... yes
checking for gzopen in -lz... no
configure: error: transcode depends on libz, but cannot links against libz

found a similar error installing subtitleripper

-- Build files have been written to: /tmp/SBo/subtitleripper
Scanning dependencies of target srttool
[ 12%] Building C object CMakeFiles/srttool.dir/srttool.c.o
Linking C executable srttool
/usr/lib/gcc/i486-slackware-linux/4.3.3/../../../../i486-slackware-linux/bin/ld: errno: TLS definition in /lib/libc.so.6 section .tbss mismatches non-TLS reference in /usr/lib/gcc/i486-slackware-linux/4.3.3/../../../libz.so
/lib/libc.so.6: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [srttool] Error 1
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/srttool.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

Does anyone know how to solve this, is it a linking problem ? ..

Thanx

Currently running Slack 13
