I have a few questions in regards to slackware 10.0 on my laptop.
now of course i dont seem to get any issues with desktop machines but this laptop is a bit of a different story.
1.) Now i know that i have to blacklist snd-intel0x8m to get my sound working in slackware 10, but if i do this can i still use my modem ? i dont seem to have come across a working model for getting both your snd-intel0x8m and snd-intel0x8 working togeather, now my google skills could be crap so please correct me if i am wrong and link me to the url on the web that talks about this, but for the life of me i cant seem to find it, anyone managed to get this working?
2.) this is not just related to slackware 10, but also suse 9.1 pro, fedora 2 etc.. it to do with the 2.6.* kernels, now i am tip of the spear in all my bios updates etc..
what happens is that if i run 2.4.26 or 2.4.27 kernels i have no issues in terms to shutdown or reboot the machine does this all correctly (With power plugged in or out), but when i upgrade to the 2.6.* (Tried all releases of this kernel) with the same config settings as the 2.4 kernel, my rebooting and shutdown breaks. what happens is if i reboot then all it does is do its shutdown and then when it reboots the screen goes blank and does nothing, i have to either power off and back on or in the case if i do have the power cord plugged in then i need to pull that out and then turn it back on, Same with shutdown, if i shutdown and it turns off, i can not start up the machine if the power cord remains connected, i have to unplugg it and turn it on. This happens with all distros using the 2.6 kernel.
now has anyone else had this kind of issue before, i have tried meny different configs and still no luck just keeps doing the same thing. If i go back to the old kernel then no worries everything is sweet. I dont want to stick with this kernel cause it has no HT support + other things.
Has anyone had these kinds of issues at all and can anyone help me help me please..
Did you enable ACPI with the 2.6 kernel perhaps? I think there is also a toshiba laptop option in general, but I don't remeber what that might be for. The shutdown problems you are describing seem to be the exact same I had with my Dell laptop when ACPI was not compiled into the kernel.
