Greetings,

I recently installed Slack 10.1 for a friend and all was working great, her system had been running non stop for about 2 weeks, then one day she claims it just shut off and now won't boot.

The system hangs on hotplug startup, and I saw a lot of errors relating to apm. I enabled apm in her modules.rc so that when she shut off the computer it would automatically turn itself off.

When I add the nohotplug parameter to LILO boot up the system goes blank when it comes time to hotplug and still won't boot.

Does anyone know how I can boot the system and change her modules.rc or copy my own modules.rc to her machine? Can I use SLAX or Knoppix to copy the file, if so, how do I get permissions to write to her folders using those live cds?

Use the second slackware CD, login as root, mount her partition
mount /dev/hdxx /mnt/hd

Then do :
echo "apm" >> /mnt/hd/etc/hotplug/blacklist
reboot and see if it fixed the problem
