synclient -l "couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"

I'm trying to get synaptics working on my slackware 14.1, where I have compiled 3.14.5 kernel from source, and getting the above error. I've looked at previous threads before with the same issue, with most people recommending to look at the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf. However, when I look inside my xorg.conf.d/ folder, it is completely empty. Is this normal?

Is there a way for me to check if, in fact, synaptics is working properly on my PC? Thanks for all the help!

It's not installed in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ by default, but you can find it in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/.

Aha I see! So I have found it and copied it over to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d - Here is my 50-synaptics.conf file

Code:
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - IT WILL BE OVERWRITTEN ON UPGRADES
# Copy this file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ and edit the copy
#
# Use "synclient -l" to see all available options
# Use "man synaptics" for details about what the options do
#
Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        Option "TapButton1" "0"
        Option "TapButton2" "0"
        Option "TapButton3" "0"
EndSection
Is there a reason why synclient -l doesn't seem to work for me? How can I be sure that synaptics is working properly on my PC?

Gentle bump.

Looking into the xorg logs with the following returned me nothing:
Code:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep synap
I also looked inside the /proc/bus/input/devices file and couldn't find any synaptics devices other than for my touch screen:
