SSH to Slack from Winxp at work

From time to time i need to get files from home to work and viceversa.

I have three workstations at home: 1) Winxp SP2 2) Linux Slack10.2 and 3) Another Linux slack 10.2 and at work we unfortunately only use WinXP with SP2 (they don't use linux :-/)

Box 1) Runs Graphics apps not yet available on Linux. Name: mistress 192.168.0.100 User: Mephisto

Box 2) runs apache and will be the default box for entry via ssh Name: Druid Domain: example.org or could be efendisystems.com (Don't know which to put so doesn't get confusing). Users: a) blob 2)blib
3) guest
192.168.0.101

Box 3) Testing environment. Name: Imp Domain (example.org)
192.168.0.102 Users: a)test b)applycake

All of the above are hooked up on my LAN and are given the addy: 192.168.0.100 ~ 192.168.102 and also are controlled by my Dlink router. I have attempted to open port 22 to box 2 (default for ssh) but I get connection refused from work. I tried other random ports like 23451 but I get connection refused.

I have registered yeti.dyndns.biz with dyndns.com for testing purposes since Comcast assigns a dynamic IP to my home connection and it's a pain managing dynamic IP's. I have the IP update client running 24/7 on Box 2.

I also registered a domain: www.efendisystems.com and told dyndns to handle the DNS requests by subscribing to their DNS custom price package. So..if anyone types: www.efendisystems.com they should get the default Apache page from box 2.

Box 2,3 have sshd up and running. Box 1 does not.

How EXACTLY can i ssh from work to box 2 using Putty or a similar proggy? What exactly do I need to type to access box 2?

Comcast assigns dynamic IP's and changes them every month or so... how can ssh know how to locate box 2?

Any input would be enormously appreciated. Please reply to mont_alfredo at yahoo dot com

Not sure where you work but you might want to check their policies on this. Connecting to a personal computer from work is usually not allowed using SSH or otherwise. This is my first post but i did bother with reading the stickies that say not to ask for replies to e-mail addresses

the hostname or IP address; in your case it would be the dynamic IP Comcast assigns to your connection. Since you are using a dynamic DNS service, you can also just use "yeti.dyndns.biz" or "efendisystems.com".

You already know the answer... you use a dynamic DNS service like dyndns.org and run the update client. If it is configured correctly to obtain the IP address from the router or the web, it will automatically update your dyndns entry when the IP address changes.

After troubleshooting some more with IRC gurus.. I forgot the following:

1) I needed to make all of three boxes as static IP's not DHCP controlled.

2) I also needed to login as user@whateverdomain port 69696 (or another random one)to avoid script kiddie attack to port 22. Reccommended by irc gurus..

To login to Box 2 I would need to type: ssh blib@druid.efendisystems.com 69696 and

Box 3 would be ssh test@imp.efendisystems.com 69696 OR

I could just login to box 2 and ssh from there to box 3 or box 1.

THanks for your input and time. Kudos to u.

biledaemon,
Have you considered using public key authentication?

http://www.edafe.org/slackware/index...authentication

Use PuTTYgen to convert your private key into PuTTY's .ppk format.

Edafe
