Soundblaster PCI128 problems

Total newbie to slackware and even linux and so haven't a clue how to set up my sound card a Soundblaster PCI128. Whenever i start X i get an error "error while initialializing the sound driver. Device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device)"

Any help would be great, currently using slack 8.1

My 128 uses the 1371 driver, but you may need to try others, as in the thread.

I believe my old SB 128 used the 1370 but I can't be sure, I don't think it was the 1371, but I could be wrong. In the rc.modules in /etc/rc.d it shows this

# ES1370 support, such as Sound Blaster 128PCI:
#/sbin/modprobe es1370
# ES1371 support, such as Sound Blaster 64V PCI:
#/sbin/modprobe es1371

so take a pick, uncomment one, and see if it works.
