sound problems

Sound is ok when I log in as root but when I log in as a different user I have no sound.
How do I fix this?

set chmod 666 on /dev/dsp* and /dev/mixer.

or add your user to a group audio (but don't allways work for me - don't now the reason).

To add a user to the audio group, just add the name of it in /etc/group at the end of the line that says something like audio::17: to make it look like audio::17:user

That never works for me either. I have a bunch of other special "groups" like that that don't seem to do anything either. Ah well. Setting /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp to be readable by everybody should do the trick.
