Sound not playing in multiple windows with alsa sound

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about and am very new.

For some reason I am unable to have audio playback in multiple windows. Namely: Zoom and Firefox. The audio will play in Zoom, but not in Firefox. I am using headphones, but I don't think that has anything to do with the issue. My windows are brought up with xterm (I think). Any idea what is causing my problem?

Four items.

1. Tell us about your OS.

Code:
~$inxi-Fxz
2. Using Root, post the results of the following code.

Code:
~# arecord -l
3. Check out the following article on how to set up the sound on Alsa and see if it helps.

https://linuxcritic.wordpress.com/20...-in-slackware/

4. Your problem is similar to another situation, that was solved, concerning Slackware 14.2. Study the following thread and see if it helps

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...es-4175631649/

Let us know the results of your terminal commands. If you follow any of the advice of the above listed references, let us know what works and what does not work so we can know how to further help you. If you are not familiar with the terminal, or how to use "root," let us know.

Without knowing what hardware / drivers you are using you might be limited to one program using the hardware at a time with ALSA unless you add an asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc.

You may need to create a dmix device that uses you actual audio hardware as a slave.

While you are not dealing with HDMI issues, specifically this thread might give you some insight into what the setup looks like:

What version Slackware are you using? 14.1 is by default ALSA only, but 14.2 is Pulseaudio and-Current defaults to Pulse but has the option to go "Pure ALSA". So what are you using that you're certain is ALSA powered? Assuming you are "Pure ALSA" (no pulse and not using apulse) the version of Firefox is critical in that only the ESR versions of Firefox (or the downloadable blobs of firefox-fuckpa) work with ALSA only. Some have success on some full new Firefox versions with apulse but YMMV. I don't know anything about Zoom.
