Hi,
I have done alsamixer too. I press "m" to make sure "MM" is displayed. But there is still no sounds.

Try going into your sound controls from within KDE and bring up your sound mixer controls and volume. KDE will sometimes mute the sound on boot-up.
Un-mute the volume.
p.s. Also make sure your regular user is in these groups:
cdrom, audio, video, and plugdev.
I had this problem, too. If my memory serves (it has been a year or two since I have used KDE), you need to change to DAE - digital audio extraction. This is because most modern computers don't include the analog audio cable any longer (though you can put it in yourself). This option should be in the KsCD options/preferences area. I cannot remember exactly where it is located, though. It should be in the same area that you select which audio driver to use (alsa, arts, etc.).
Hi,
I have spend all this morning to solve this sound problem, but without any success. I give it up at least for now. I have another desktop at home with the slackware 11.0 verson and it works just fine.
From memory, in alsamixer, I had to un-mute the sound and increase the volume for the various "sliders" (using
the up cursor key). I think this was true on my slack 11 laptop and slack 12 desktop.
Also, on slack 11 on my laptop I had to download a newer alsa and compile and install to get sound working.
I just installed Slackware 12 a week ago and I have this problem with ALSA Mixer.
The sound is muted everytime I start my computer. running alsamixer and unmuting "MM" and editing the correct sliders helps, however after each restart these new settings are gone.
alsactl store does not help.
Tried running it as root and as user - no difference.
Any ideas how to solve this problem? It's really annoying to set hte sound up again and again =\
Well, I just wanted everybody know that the sound problem in my laptop was fixed. Basically, I ran through the steps one more time, but this time I cranked everything in the alsamixer to the max. It seems to me that if you don't do that you might not hear any sound even if it is playing in KSCD.
Oh by the way, I also needed to unmute the sound by "00" not "MM" in alsamixer.
