@onebuck

Thanks for all the info you post about SSD.

I got a 128GB KingSpec 2.5-inch PATA/IDE SSD that doesn't support trim for an old Dell laptop.

Do you know if there's similar trim type function?

Thanks

Hi,

If you are a user of Ruari Oedegaard’s 'latest-firefox' script then you want to apply this patch from this thread; Ruario's latest-firefox error get the patch script here.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

You may need to go to the KingSpec web site to get any information & utilities for that drive.

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

Owning a 64 gig zif connect IDE/Pata Kingspec that does not support trim myself. On a Atom netbook running AntiX (Debian Testing/Unstable).

This page below was helpful on setting up zram on my drive instead. Since I do not use a /swap partition on it also because of the limitations imposed by these King Spec SSD drives.

After I set it up, I noticed the speed advantages. Subjectively, it feels like having 4GB of RAM instead of the 2GB that is the default for my ChromeBook.
Not much you can do with these Kingspec drives. But that is one that may help you enjoy it more.

thanks rokytnji

I think I'm going to see how the drive holds up and if the laptop holds up.

I also found this OWC 60GB Mercury Legacy Pro SSD 2.5" IDE/ATA 9.5mm Solid State Drive, if I really want IDE SSD that supports trim.

You may build your opinion as you like, but there is another thread where your question would rather belong.

For your information the genuine Slackware installer allows you to do a net install: just choose a http/ftp server as source of packages.

And there is no shortage of ways to put just the installer (without the packages) on a small USB stick, for instance you could could make one using AlienBOB's usbimg2disk.sh or use a Slint installer.

As surprising it may seem, you will need the KDE series of packages. But a full installation is still recommended. To know more, visit http://docs.slackware.com.

Hi,

Expanded from a previous post within this thread.

So you want a local tree for Slackware -current or Slackware64 -current then I suggest that you look at Alien_Bob's script;
Quote:
http://www.slackware.com/~alien/tool...are-current.sh

If you want to know what it can do, just run the script with the “-h” parameter.

Please be sure to run the script initially with;
-w Write a .conf file containing script defaults. The '.conf' will be created in the script's directory, as 'mirror-slackware-current.conf' that can be edited to set for local requirements.
You can then use the mirror-slackware-current.conf file to set things as you wish. That way you will not need to pass parameters to mirror-slackware-current.sh but have a default configuration within the '.conf' file.

The mirror-slackware-current.conf file is well documented so you will know what needs to be set for your local setups.

In #6 of thread Build an ISO DVD from -current? ponce provides some additional tips. The thread Build an ISO DVD from -current? provides more information that some will find useful.

Another big Thank You to Eric!

Hope this helps.
Have fun & enjoy!

It needed another fix due to a further change that Mozilla made (they no longer maintain the "latest" symlinks on their ftp server, that my script relied on to work out the version).

Anyway, I have an updated version available as a GitHub Gist. Now I do a GET requestion to download.mozilla.org, so that I can work out the correct version number.

So you want to be a Slacker! What do I do next?

FYI AlienBob is building a live image of slackware. First shots available from his blog Alien Pastures.
